About me

Donna KaDell at her Southern California home studio

Based in Southern California, I work remotely with brands, agencies, startups, and production partners across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

For more than twenty years, I’ve helped brands turn ideas into something tangible. Each project is a little different. Sometimes it’s a new product. Sometimes it’s a display, a package, or a website. However it starts, the goal is always the same: communicate the idea clearly and make sure it feels right for the brand.

3D conceptual design is my primary lane and the part of the process I love most. It allows me to give form to an idea before anything is built. When a project moves into production, my print background helps me carry the graphics forward as well, preparing production-ready mechanicals for POP displays, folding cartons, rigid boxes, and corrugated packaging.

My work now also includes web design, SEO, search and social advertising, and video content. The tools may be different, but they all help the brand show up consistently in print, at retail, and online.

Frequently asked questions.

Do you work on a retainer or project basis?

Both. Most jobs are scoped as individual with a defined set of deliverables, timeline, and estimated cost. For clients with ongoing creative needs, I also offer monthly support based on an agreed number of hours or priorities. The right structure depends on the type of work, how frequently support is needed, and how clearly the job can be defined upfront.

What types of projects do you take on?

My core work includes packaging, retail displays, 3D conceptual renderings, presentation visuals, campaign creative, and brand applications. I also support the digital side through website design, ecommerce, landing pages, SEO, SEM, Google Ads, social media content, and digital advertising. Projects can involve one specific deliverable or a broader creative program carried across multiple touchpoints.

Do you only create concepts, or can you prepare production-ready files too?

Both. I can develop the initial concept, create the presentation renderings, refine the direction, and prepare final production artwork when the project calls for it. For packaging and retail displays, I work alongside structural designers, manufacturers, printers, agencies, and production teams to make sure the creative can move realistically from concept into production.

How does communication work during a project?

You work directly with me throughout the entire project. Communication can happen through email, phone, video meetings, or the platform your team already uses. I provide updates at various stages of the job, share work for review, and keep feedback organized so the project continues moving without a ton of back-and-forth.

How do revisions work?

Each proposal includes a reasonable number of revision rounds based on the scope of the project. Feedback should be consolidated whenever possible so revisions can be handled efficiently and accurately. Minor refinements are typically part of the original scope. Significant changes in direction, additional concepts, or new deliverables may require an updated estimate.

What happens if the scope changes during the project?

Creative projects sometimes evolve. When a request moves beyond the original scope, I will flag it before we start and explain how it may affect the budget or timeline. Additional work can usually be added at my hourly rate or quoted as a separate project phase. There should never be a surprise invoice at the end.

How much does a typical project cost?

Pricing depends on the scope of the job, complexity, number of concepts, revision requirements, and final deliverables. Smaller jobs can be handled hourly, while larger packaging, display, branding, website, or campaign projects are typically quoted as a flat project fee. I provide an estimate before work begins so the cost and expectations are clear and work for both of us.

How quickly will I receive the first concepts?

Timing depends on what’s involved and my current schedule, but most initial concepts are presented within an agreed timeframe established at the beginning of the project. Smaller jobs move a little quicker, and bigger projects involving research, structural considerations, multiple renderings, or broader creative development require more time. Rush jobs are usually available depending on my workload.

Can you work with our existing agency, printer, manufacturer, or internal team?

Absolutely. A lot of my work is collaborative. I regularly work with agencies, brokers, manufacturers, structural designers, printers, marketing teams, and internal stakeholders. I can step in for one specific portion of the process or help maintain creative consistency across the entire project.

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with established brands, manufacturers, packaging and display companies, agencies, brokers, startups, and independent businesses. Some clients bring me in for specialized 3D or retail display work. Others need broader creative support across packaging, websites, advertising, and brand content. The relationship is shaped around what the project actually requires.
